  i’m getting better at guitar hero. moving from medium to hard is a bitch. easy > medium, big deal, you start using your pinky. medium > hard? move your whole damn hand. i ain’t that fast. i love playing the slip’s “even rats” though. good starter song for hard.

  well, tomorrow i’m off to charleston, south carolina for vacation with dad, stephanie, ned, katy, justin (katy’s new “friend”), max gray and his two.. or three daughters, john (one of the daughter’s husband), and maybe mark if he’ll get off his ass. it’s gonna be an.. adventure.

  today was.. hilarious. in that sarcastic, unhumorously opposite way.

  dad and stephanie (and the dogs) drop by in their new boat and katy and i go for a ride. i ask to go down to the waterfront and see if bill’s hot dogs is open so i can get some lunch. we go, and dad pulls up next to the dock, angled out about.. 45 degrees. the wind was blowing us into the dock and i’m the only one who notices that dad’s brand new motor is going to slam into the support pole. i go over, and lean over to push the boat off from the pole, and just as i lean, dad notices too, and guns the throttle.

  can you guess what happens next?

  yup. i fall face first into the water (nearly losing my glasses), stuck between a marina dock with what felt like a concrete slab underneath it, and a spinning propeller blade. thank god i only busted my elbow on the slab and didn’t thrash or anything. plus marina water is fucking filthy. oh but that’s not the end of the story.

  in my pocket is a lighter and one (1) ipod nano. yeah. imogen heap’s “hide and seek” continues playing for about four seconds underwater before i hear “cchzt” and nothing. before it cut off, i knew i was fucked so i reached underwater to try and get it before it really fucks u–.. dammit.

  upon seeing that i am okay, and not chopped up into little bits or floating face down in the water from braining myself, they start laughing about it. everyone in my family laughs when someone else gets hurt. they claim coping mechanism, i claim bullshit.

  i start swimming towards dad, and he’s still going! i yell at them and he starts circling around, so i swim to cut him off, and he moves farther away. at this point the water’s still pretty goddamn cold for a skinny white boy like me, so once i hit the water i lost my breath, so i was breathing in that shallow, cut off way when you can’t catch a full breath. my ipod is fucked, i’m soaked in filthy ass water, and dad won’t even reverse to stop the boat. finally my sister throws me a line and i climb in.

  they ask if i’m okay, and i say yeah, cept for my elbow and.. i pull out the nano which is dripping by now, and my sister’s face just drops. then i reach into my other pocket..

  oh for fucks sake.

  make that one (1) ipod nano and one (1) motorola v710. what i thought was my wallet was actually my nearly-new cell phone. fan-fucking-tastic.

  i sit on the boat and start disassembling what i can of the cell phone, and leave them out to dry. there’s water all underneath the LCDs, both inside and external.. and i’m pretty pissed. we cruise up and down for a while and finally head home.

  i went out again with mom and my aunt a few minutes later, come home around 5, and here i am. i took apart my nano to let it dry out, and just put it back together, and actually, it works. there are splotches in the LCD where you can see water hit it, but it does work - when connected to a power source. take it off the power, and bzzt. nothing. at least there’s that. and the memory card from my phone should still be okay. yay solid state memory.

  hey you. wanna know what i did today (aside from getting the silent treatment for being late to easter dinner)? yeah, i thought so.

  

  so, yeah, i’m pretty godawful at golf, but i certainly tried. we skipped out on 17 and went to the halfway point of 18 ‘cos we were tired (tired enough that i wrote the score for 18 in 17)

  and yes, that is an infinity symbol. paul asked for that score. and the last hole he said “i got whatever you got, minus four.” so i put in twenty-thousand.

  so, the final scores were:

  paul: infinity² + 20093
  dad: 74
  me: 20108

  feels like we were playing calvinball.

  last night, friday, GOOD friday, we celebrated joe’s birthday at his house. trailer. housetrailer. paul, mark, and i got him a half-gallon of captain morgan private somethingorother, and a nice cigar. plus one for each of us. we grilled burgers, played poker (i won 25 bucks - which i ended up spending today), and watching joe slowly get plastered by drinking shot after shot of that damn rum. he and everyone else downed it to about half the bottle. good stuff though, tasted like vanilla coke. i didn’t drink all that much considering i had a big day the next day.

  which was ned’s birthday party. eighth. seventh. i think it was eighth, i can’t remember. this is ned.

  

  his dad (not my dad and stephanie, strangely) rented a bouncy castle like he had last year, but the party was held at dad’s house. it was a strange setup.

  

  we get there at about 2pm (after running to target for easter stuff for tomorrow), and immediately have to set back out again to run errands. snacks, drinks, and liquor. this is my kind of eight-year-old’s party. we get back and ned and i spend some time in the bouncy castle thingy. a note. it was 85 degrees outside, and that dark red material soaks up every bit of the sun it gets. and there is no airflow whatsoever in there. so i’d have to come out after 15 minutes ‘cos i felt like i was dying.

  

  we had picked up this bucket of margarita mix. you just pour the tequilla into and set it on the edge of the counter and it has a little tap. that went.. quickly. one glass and katy and i were back out running errands. back to the house with a gallon of jose cuervo.

  

  around then it was.. 4:30, the kids were all there and they were as bad as i was in the castle. they wouldn’t (or couldn’t) stay in there for long. katy had picked up some cheapo water pistols and they went to it. then all hell broke loose. someone found a package of balloons, so, water balloon fights ensued, hose fights, to and from the castle, in and out of the house, so on and so forth. i was mainly either in the castle or on my ass recouperating.

  

  at some point, the margaritas, the heat, and the exercise from the bouncy castle really got to me, and i felt pretty sick, so i went inside and sat down for a good 30-45 minutes.

  

  somewhere in between then, ned and his friends were having push fights in the castle. just playing around. apparently it got a bit serious. ned and alexander, one of his friends, got into a real fistfight. scratching, punching, so on and so forth. i’m not sure why. i think i used to do that with my friend next door in midlothian. gregory. he was a redhead too.

  

  anyway. i come out, and there’d ned with a bandaid on his face, a scratch on his nose and on his temple. alexander had long scratches on the left side of his face, finger-spaced apart, going from just to the side of his temple all the way down to his chin. it was fuckin’ strange. he didn’t seem to mind later on when things were winding down, he climbed under a faucet and turned it on, then came over and shook on me. thanks, buddy.

  

  that damn castle exhausted me, so after most everyone went home, and ned went off to celebrate his birthday at his dad’s, i passed out for 10-15 minutes on the couch (at this point i wasn’t buzzing anymore, just exhausted). they woke me up and we went out to dinner at a restaurant, eating outside, which was great since it’s april, and voila, here i am.

  tired, tired, tired. tomorrow’s easter. lunch with dad, maybe golf in the afternoon, and dinner back here at home with relatives.

  jesus’ dying and ressurrection makes for a busy weekend.

  been feeling like crap lately. don’t know why, sleep schedule’s off? who knows.

  valentine’s day was.. depressing. i’m not complaining about what i got from my mom and sister. money, shirt, cards, plus i’m sick of chocolate for another year. it’d just be nice to have someone to give something to that’s.. not family, if you get my drift. the good ones are either lesbians or disinterested/spoken-for. two specific people.. take that as you will. nothing’s stopping me from giving them stuff. kind of unrequited, you know? it’s no big deal.

  been watching a lot of the olympics. currently team speed skating, which looks ridiculous. it’s like synchronized swimming, only.. on ice? then i guess that would be figure skating. you know what i mean. they look the damn same. left. right. left. right. turn turn turn turn, left. right. left. right. well, the italians are smiling as they race, at least they’re having fun.

  welp. italy won, apparently. or something. fuck, i can’t keep up. except in curling. that shit looks fun, but then again i like shuffleboard too. i’m gonna be one of those stereotypical old people.

  played a bit of counter-strike: source lately too, aside from just watching it. that’s what i do. i watch. it’s like television where you can move the camera around and talk to the contestants. director of a murder simulator, fun! but playing it.. nope, never really had all that much interest, you know? til they pester me, then yeah, i’ll play, if they pester enough or the teams are stupidly uneven. not that i’m a deciding factor in whether or not they win. they make up rumors though, it’s pretty funny.

  “one day draconic’s going to play CSS and he’s just going to kill us all. he doesn’t play because it would be unfair to both teams.”
